Principal’s School News – 05/08/17

In honor of Our Blessed Mother, we held our annual May Crowning on May 5th. Valentina Villasboa (Grade 8) and Neva Brott (Kindergarten) had the privilege and honor of crowning the statue of the Blessed Mother this year. Together we prayed the Rosary as a school community in devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We thank all our students for praying the Holy Rosary with such reverence, and we thank those parents who were able to join us in prayer. We also thank Mrs. Debbie Mendez and Grade 8 prayer leaders for planning such a beautiful prayer service.

Congratulations to our 2nd grade students who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on May 6th. We thank Father Michael Quilligan and Deacon Mitch Abdallah for a beautiful celebration! Thank you to our 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Ana Soto, and to our teacher aide, Mrs. Molly Werner, for preparing our students for this memorable day in their lives as Catholics…the reception of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the very first time. Thank you also to our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Debbie Mendez! Congratulations again to our First Communicants and their families!

On May 6th, the following Science Olympiad team members competed against other schools in several events: Grade 3– Margaritha A, Brendan B, Chaii-anne F, Haley G, Anaelle J, Michael L, Jack N, Elijah P; Grade 4 – Ashley G, Anahya J, Theresa M, Sofhia R, Alana R, Gabriela Z; Grade 5 – Aleah A, Conor A, Brian G, Juliana M, Sydney M, Jason R, Melanie S, Zackarias S, Fabiola S. Congratulations to all team members for a job well done! We thank Mrs. Lisa Young and Mrs. Tina Geraci for their dedication to our school’s science program, and we thank the team’s parents for their support as well!

Thank you to everyone who supported our Scholastic “Spring” Book Fair last week. We also thank Mrs. Maria D’Argenzio and our dedicated volunteers for all of their hard work in planning and organizing the Scholastic Book Fair during such a busy time of year!

We hope you will attend our Band and Choir Concert this Thursday, May 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Thank you in advance to Mr. Alfred Casinelli and Dr. Ryan Chapman for planning such a great evening!

Please be reminded that we are in process of ending the school year and ask that you stay informed by reading school news, checking PlusPortals and your student’s agenda, and communicating with your student’s teacher. Information for the 2017-18 school year will be posted on the school website on June 1, 2017.

As we continue to honor the Blessed Mother during the month of May, we remember and we pray for all mothers, especially on this Mother’s Day weekend. Happy Mother’s Day!

Principal’s School News – 04/24/17

Happy Easter! May the peace of the Risen Lord be with you and your families.

Thank you to Mrs. Debbie Mendez and our 8th grade students who participated in the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday and in the presentation of The Way of the Cross on Good Friday. We are proud of our students for embracing their Catholic faith!

Thank you to the National Junior Honor Society and Student Council for sponsoring and organizing this year’s Easter Egg Hunt for our PK3 – Grade 2 students on April 10th! Thank you also to our moderators, Mrs. Debbie Mendez and Mrs. Ileana Garcia, for facilitating our annual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a fun and exciting afternoon!

We hope that you can stop by the school library next week to support our Scholastic “Spring” Book Fair. It is a BUY ONE, GET ONE FREE event…this is a great opportunity to add twice as many books to your student’s collection! The book fair will be open on school days between the hours of 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. If you are visiting during school hours, please stop by the main school office to receive a visitor’s pass.

Please keep our second grade students in your prayers as they prepare to receive Christ in the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on May 6th!

Principal’s School News – 04/10/17

Congratulations to our 8th graders who received the Sacrament of Confirmationon April 7th. We thank Bishop Fernando Isern, Father Michael Quilligan, and Deacon Mitch Abdallah for a very beautiful celebration. Thank you to our Director of Religious Education, Mrs. Debbie Mendez, for preparing our school students for this important step in their faith journey. We also thank all of our other teachers and staff who contributed to the students’ spiritual development over the past many years! Thank you to Mr. Casinelli and our adult choir as well! May God continue to bless our students, and may they always remember their Confirmation in a very special way.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Father/Daughter Gala on April 8th sponsored by our Home & School Association. It was a very special evening for all our school dads and their daughters. The Parish Hall was transformed beautifully into “A Night in Paris” and all of the special touches were truly amazing! We especially thank Mrs. Vincent, who once again served as our chairperson, along with Mrs. Carvalho, Mrs. Crespo, Mrs. Saravia, and Mrs. Soto-Salazar, who all contributed and dedicated so much of their time and creative talent in helping to make this an unforgettable event…thank you so much! We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition at Annunciation School.

Please remember that each family at Annunciation School is required to volunteer 20 service hours per school year. Please drop off your service hours card in the main school office prior no later than April 28th at 3:00 p.m. so that your hours may be credited towards the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you for your continued support!

As a reminder, we will be on Easter break beginning Holy Thursday, April 13-23! Classes will resume on Monday, April 24th. Happy Easter to all our families!

Calendar Change – May 17

As you know, May 17 is an Early Release Day.

Per the Archdiocese of Miami Office of Catholic Schools, the dismissal time has been moved from 1:00 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. for all schools so that teachers may attend professional development.

The cafeteria will be closed for regular lunch schedules.

After care will be available as usual.

If your child will be staying in after care, please have him/her bring a lunch from home or $3.00 to purchase a hot dog, chips, and drink.

Principal’s School News – 03/27/17

Congratulations to our school’s art and choir students who participated in Archbishop McCarthy High School’s 2017 Fine Arts Extravaganza on March 18th! We are proud of our students, and we thank Mrs. Debi Mesa and Mr. Alfred Casinelli for another job well done!

Last week, our 8th grade students participated in Spirit Day, a special day of reflection in preparation of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Thank you to Mrs. Debbie Mendez and Chaminade-Madonna’s Campus Ministry Leaders for providing Annunciation students with such a meaningful retreat experience. Please keep our students in your prayers as they approach their Confirmation Day on April 7th!

Thank you to Mrs. Ileana Garcia and our 5th grade students for their very meaningful presentation at our Feast of the Annunciation School Mass on March 24th! Together we remembered the visit of the Archangel Gabriel to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her special role in God’s plan for our salvation. May the Lord and our Blessed Mother continue to bless, protect, and watch over our church and school.

We held our Middle School Dance on March 25th! Thank you to Mrs. Debbie Mendez for organizing such a fun evening for our middle school students! Thank you also to Mrs. Nicholson, Mrs. Leto, Mrs. Padilla, and Mrs. Young for chaperoning the dance. We also thank Mrs. Vincent, Mrs. Amaya, Mrs. Crespo, and Mrs. Saravia for decorating the parish hall so beautifully! The students had a great time with their friends!

As you know, 3rd quarter report cards will be available through PlusPortals on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 after 4:00 p.m. Unless prior arrangements have been made, all financial obligations must be current in order for you to receive your student’s report card. This includes after care, cafeteria, tuition, outstanding fees, etc. Please contact Patty Daher in the church office at 954-989-0606 with any questions regarding your family’s account. Thank you.

We are about two weeks away from our Father/Daughter Gala, “A Night in Paris”, on April 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Please be sure to send in your RSVPs no later than this Friday, March 31st!
